Many local churches extend generous support to Kentucky Refugee Ministries (KRM) by agreeing to sponsor a newly-arrived refugee family. These sponsoring congregations collect furniture, clothes and household items for the family, pay their rent for the first three months, and assist KRM case management staff in taking family members to appointments and orienting them to their new community. Just as importantly, church sponsors provide a newly-arrived refugee family with an invaluable measure of support, encouragement and friendship. This article (5.31.06) in the Church World Service Immigration & Refugee Program newsletter profiles several congregations that have been longstanding sponsors of refugee families resettled by the KRM Lexington office.
